UNION 36 "CUMULUS" — 1981 — FULLY REFITTED BLUEWATER CRUISER

CAP MED BOAT & YACHT CONSULTING presents this Union 36 "CUMULUS", built in 1981 by the Taiwanese yard Union Yacht Company to a design by American naval architect Robert H. Perry. At 10.85 metres with a 3.44-metre beam, GRP hull with a full-length keel and raked stem, she is a genuine bluewater cruiser, known for her sturdiness and reassuring behaviour at sea. Lying in Le Lavandou, France, under French flag.

Her key strength: a complete refit. In 2012 the yacht was fully rebuilt after being entirely stripped down — hull, deck and rig. In 2014 she received a brand-new engine, together with a new shaft line and propeller. She therefore offers a renewed structure and drivetrain, backed by regular maintenance recorded in the service book.

Power is recent: Nanni N4-50 diesel fitted new in 2014, showing only 576 hours (approx. 58 hours per year), with Twin Disc gearbox, new shaft line, rope cutter and three-blade propeller. The engine starts first time and runs with no leaks or abnormal noise.

The rig, overhauled in 2012, is based on a Selden aluminium in-mast furling spar with two sets of spreaders, a Selden boom and stainless standing rigging, all commissioned in 2009. Added to this: Furlex genoa furler, removable inner forestay and spinnaker pole. The 2017 sail wardrobe — mainsail, furling genoa and storm jib — is in good condition. Deck gear includes two Harken ST 46 sheet winches, two Harken 8 coachroof winches and a Lofrans electric windlass.

Below decks, the layout is built for long-distance cruising: 500 litres of fresh water, two fridges including a freezer, gas cooker, microwave oven, water heater, pressurised water system, heating and a black-water tank. The interior is dry and sound, with upholstery, mattresses and joinery all well maintained. Deck and cockpit are teak-laid.

Electronics comprise a Garmin navigation system (GPS, chartplotter and radar), Raymarine log-speedometer, depth sounder and autopilot, wind instrument and a Navicom RT750 VHF. Power is supplied by a battery bank renewed in 2024 (two 143 Ah service batteries, one 143 Ah engine battery, plus a dedicated windlass battery), Victron and Prosport chargers, a solar panel and shore power.

Safety equipment is complete for offshore sailing: liferaft, EPIRB, fire extinguishers, hand flares, steering compass, manual and electric bilge pumps, main and spare ground tackle. Added to this: sprayhood, bimini, cockpit cushions, cockpit table, boom brake, bathing ladder, outboard crane and a tender with its auxiliary outboard.

A rare bluewater yacht, deeply refitted and ready to sail, offered at EUR 69,900 (TTC) and lying in Le Lavandou. Contact CAP MED Boat & Yacht Consulting to arrange a viewing.
